Book Review: Tower of Babel

The Tower of Babel: The Cultural History of Our Ancestors is “chock-full” of information. What a resource! I have always been intrigued by the coming of nationalities, customs, and languages. The basis for language differentiation is so wonderfully explained by Hodge that to use this book in any linguistics class is a must. Not just that but as a home school supporter, moms should use this book when explaining biblical history as well. Historically and biblically founded it is a complete resource for the student, historian, and curious alike.  The text is full of much more than the history of language alone. Hodge also inserts maps with descriptions among the material. It taps into contrasting evolutionary theory basing language on “proto-language” based on grunts and other basic animal sounds and clearly warns that Christians should be careful of humanistic ideas such as these. To be concise, the other two types of language categories discussed are constructed language and language isolates.  Aside from her research on languages work and maps she also includes tables that organize the lineage of many prominent biblical figures and the linguistic connections. Whether you usually enjoy this type of historical and biblical reading or not, you will not be disappointed as you read through all the research Bodie Hodge concisely put together.

Book Review: Advice for Seekers

Wonderfully pleased! What an amazing book! I am a fan of Charles H. Spurgeon for sure. This text, Advice for Seekers, is great for new converts and for seasoned believers as well. I really think this type of teacher is few and far in-between. I especially like Spurgeon because of the fact that he can be so simple yet kick you right in the rear at the same time. This is a short book that you will want to read over and over again as it continually puts you in your place spiritually. Reading the content makes you realize that if you pridefully think that you have your perfect-self in order, you’re not even close. In the same instance, there is a gentle check it puts you through if you are the type that believes you are no good and fall to short to be important to Our Father God as Spurgeon explains God’s unfailing love.Spurgeon at age 23.
